At the upcoming Annual General Meeting in September, the LECL Board of Directors will put forth a motion to adopt an entirely new set of bylaws by which the community league will be governed.
Since its inception in 1993, the LECL has been operating with a standard template of bylaws as modeled after the Alberta Societies Act. It was a convenient way to get the league started but The Societies Act Bylaws are quite basic and do not reflect current operating practices of community leagues. As well, the standard bylaws did not provide sufficient detail with respect to all common board positions, responsibilities, and accountability.
Over the past year, a Bylaws Committee which comprised the past president (Curtis Treen), vice president (Brandy Luedemann), and Director-at-large (Ed Butler) initiated a review of our current bylaws in comparison to those that are used to govern other community leagues. Through this review it was decided that it would be easier to adopt a completely new set of bylaws modeled after other community leagues instead of making the numerous amendments required to our current bylaws.
As per our current bylaws and proposed new bylaws, changes must be communicated and voted on by our membership. We will be presenting a motion to adopt these new bylaws at the AGM.
We urge you to review the proposed bylaws (download .pdf) in comparison with our current bylaws (download .pdf). We would appreciate any feedback to these changes prior to the AGM by contacting Curtis, Brandy, or Ed from our Board of Directors contact list.
